For years, there have been complaints about the ubiquity of advertising messages. For years, advertising has continued to insinuate itself into the tiniest nooks and crannies of our lives.

Ads on my cell phone. Ads on my Web pages. Ads on my coffee cup. It seems that the future presented in Futurama, where ads appear in my dreams, isn't that far off.

...

Does anyone else see a change coming? Is the rise of SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE MARKETING an early indicator of this change? Are there other canaries in the coal mine?

Or will we just express our frustration at the continuing deterioration of the human condition and the ongoing erosion of social graces by going out and buying a bunch more stuff?
